Pinnacles Desert

The pinnacles desert is in the Namburg National Park.
In this area of varying coloured sand there are thousands of limestone pinnacles, which range in size up to 5m tall and 2m thick at the base.
They were formed thousands of years ago when ancient plant roots formed a weak cementation of calcite within the dunes and have been exposed by wind and shifting sands.

First time driving off road with the jeep!
Well, sort of off road, it was a track!
We got there a bit late to watch the sunset, but it was still light enough to see the desert. It was just awesome! Hundreds of pinnacles in the sand!
We slept on car park over night (totally illegal as normal).

We got up early to watch the sun rise over the desert the next day. It was magnificent! The colours were so beautiful! The sky so pink and red!

One last drive around the pinnacles, and it was time to hit the road again.
